The Music Industry Is Rigged, Here Is an Amazing Way They Can Fight Back!

Introducing the International Online Democratic Art Nation

We are IOD Nations. We promote and are launching national and international discussion and debate about Online Citizen-Led Democracy and to unite as many pro-democracy world citizens, as quickly as possible… ONLINE. We believe “If a business no longer requires brick and mortar then a nation no longer requires land and borders”. If billions of us are already united ONLINE, “WHY NOT” unify in one location and collaborate for Freedom and Democracy?

Democracy never stagnant, democracy is either growing or shrinking. Right now, the world’s artists are telling us it’s shrinking and they’re mobilizing.

Over 1,000 musicians and cultural workers have signed an open letter calling for a boycott of the 2026 Eurovision Song Contest over Israel’s participation, citing the ongoing war in Gaza. Organized by the “No Music for Genocide” campaign, this action builds on a powerful 2025 initiative where hundreds of artists blocked their music from streaming in Israel entirely.

This is not a fringe protest. This is a global democratic movement wearing an artist’s face and it has no permanent home.

That ends today.

Artists Are Organizing. Democracy Gave Them Nowhere to Land.

When a thousand musicians sign a letter, they are doing something profoundly democratic. They are speaking collectively. They are using their cultural power as a civic lever. They are saying: our voices are not just for entertainment they are for accountability.

But then what?

The letter gets signed. The news cycle moves on. The movement fragments. The power evaporates.

We at IODNations.org are asking evey single person who reads this article to subscribe with us so that we can all send emails to these artists and urge them to Unite Online as “The International ONLINE Art Nation”.

This is the structural failure of democracy in the digital age. Citizens including artists mobilize in moments of outrage but have no permanent, sovereign digital infrastructure to convert that energy into sustained, collective democratic action.

IOD Nations was built to fix exactly that.

Introducing: The International Online Democratic Art Nation

The IOD Art Nation can become the newest founding sub-nation of IOD Nations built to unite artists, musicians, filmmakers, writers, and cultural workers around the world in a permanent online democratic community.

Not a petition platform. A citizen/artist-led democratic nation for the creative world that can launch their own ONLINE artist led and managed streaming service and artist promoting platform!

The IOD Art Nation gives the global artist community:

  • A permanent democratic home — where artists and their supporters can organize, vote, and build consensus around freedom, justice, and democracy as well as how to protect and monetize art Of, By and For Artists

  • A collective civic voice — so that the next 1,000-artist letter becomes the first action of a million-member movement

  • Cross-border solidarity — uniting artists from Tel Aviv to Taipei, from Lagos to London, not by nationality but by democratic values

  • A platform they own — where their participation shapes policy, not algorithms

Spotify and Others Are Cheating Musicians. ONLINE Artist/Citizen-Led Democracy Offers a Better Architecture.

Here is the second crisis the IOD Art Nation will be built to confront.

Spotify announced it paid over $10 billion to the music industry in 2024. The headline sounds generous. The reality is devastating for the artists who actually create the music.

The model is structurally extractive:

  • Spotify pays approximately $0.003 to $0.005 per stream meaning an independent artist needs over 200,000 streams just to earn minimum wage for a single month

  • The bulk of that $10 billion flows upward to major labels, not artists through a royalty structure that was designed before streaming existed and has never been democratized

  • In 2024, Spotify moved the goalposts further, removing monetization eligibility for tracks with fewer than 1,000 monthly streams wiping out income for thousands of independent creators overnight

  • Artists have no vote, no seat, no say in how the platform operates, sets rates, or distributes revenue

This is not a music industry problem. This is a democracy problem.

When the people who create the value have no power over the system that captures it that is the opposite of democracy. That is extraction.

The IOD Art Nation’s Answer: A Democratic Music Platform

IOD Nations is advancing a founding proposal: a citizen/artist-owned, democratically governed music streaming platform built for artists, governed by artists, and structured around democratic participation rather than corporate extraction.

The framework draws directly on Taiwan’s vTaiwan/Pol.is model the world’s most proven digital democracy system to enable:

  • Artist-voted royalty structures — where payout rates are set by democratic consensus, not boardroom decisions

  • Transparent revenue distribution — every dollar tracked, every split visible, every decision open to citizen audit

  • Platform governance by membership — artists and listeners as co-equal citizens, not users being monetized

  • Democratic veto power — the community can vote to block, modify, or reverse any platform policy

You see things and ask why. I dream things and ask — Why Not?

— George Bernard Shaw

Why not a music platform where musicians govern themselves? Why not a creative economy that runs on democratic principles? Why not a digital nation where your art is also your citizenship?

Why not?

The Movement Is Already Marching. Join It.

The 1,000 artists who signed that Eurovision letter were not just protesting a song contest. They were declaring that culture is inseparable from democracy and that artists will not be neutral while democracy burns.

The IOD Art Nation gives that declaration a permanent address.

If you are an artist, musician, filmmaker, writer, or cultural worker who believes that:

  • Freedom of expression is a democratic right, not a platform privilege

  • Artists deserve economic justice, not algorithmic charity

  • Culture should serve democracy, not distract from it

— then the IOD Art Nation is your nation.

Make Democracy Offensive… NOT Anonymous™️

The IOD Art Nation is open now. Democracy doesn’t wait and neither should you.
