The Hopi Prophecy of the Third Shaking of the Earth

That’s the whole argument. Everything below is the walk-through, as it circulates widely today, in this telling:

In Native American wisdom, the Hopi tribe spoke of a powerful prophecy known as the Three Great Shakings of the Earth.

The first two shakings are believed to have already occurred, being the First and Second World Wars, both global events that deeply impacted all of humanity.

The Third Shaking, the Hopi said, would come at a time of great upheaval, marked by an increase in extreme weather events of all kinds, such as earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, tsunamis, storms, fires, and floods.

These would all be signs that Mother Earth was entering a sacred birthing process and a time of deep cleansing, purification and transformation in our world.

The Hopi, and all indigenous peoples understand the Earth as a sentient, sacred being and our living, breathing Mother, with indigenous peoples living in harmony and balance with nature, honoring the lands, the waters, the entire planet and with great respect for all that she provides.

The Hopi taught that the Earth moves through natural cycles of release and renewal and that when humanity strays from living in alignment, the Earth responds with a great rebalancing as a natural consequence.

At this time of The Third Shaking, the Hopi believed that global division, conflict and disharmony would become so widespread that the Earth would begin to call out to her children and she would urge us, as the children who live upon her, to return to peace, unity, and harmony with one another, with Mother Earth herself, and with all life.

Imagine if this article becomes that “call” for us to unite and collaborate with the indigenous peoples of the world for freedom and democracy!

At the same time of The Third Great Shaking, the prophecy also speaks of a shift into a new era, which coincides with the Hopi Rainbow Warrior prophecy, that foretells a tribe of millions of people, from all races, nations and walks of life, who would hear the Earth’s call and begin to awaken spiritually.

One by one, these peoples would set aside their differences, begin to unite and return to a way of being that is rooted in love, healing, harmony and balance upon the Earth.

Many believe we are now living in this time, the time of The Third Great Shaking, where the old ways of division, disconnection and imbalance are beginning to dissolve, and something new is about to be born.

The Moment Doesn’t Need a Prophecy to Be Real

You don’t need a 100-1000 year-old prophecy to notice:

• Public trust in government has collapsed. Pew Research has tracked U.S. trust in government falling from a peak of 77% in 1964 to just 17% as of September 2025, among the lowest readings since the question was first asked in 1958.

• Democracy itself is in retreat globally. Freedom House has documented 20 consecutive years of net global decline in political rights and civil liberties, the longest losing streak on record, with the United States posting one of the sharpest single-year drops among “Free” countries in 2025.

• Extreme “weather” is intensifying, and the debate about why has become another front in the same division the prophecy warns about, instead of common ground to organize around.

Whether you read the moment through prophecy, through data, or through your own daily life, the diagnosis lands in the same place: the old model of top-down, geography-locked, once-every-few-years democracy is not built for this pace of change. It was designed for a world of paper ballots and physical land and borders based nations. We are living in a world of instant information and borderless citizens and their nations, IOD Nations!

“Dare to Be Naive” Is Not a Slogan. It’s Instructions.

Buckminster Fuller’s line gets quoted constantly and applied rarely: build the new model, don’t waste your life fighting the old one.

IOD Nations is one attempt at building that new model. The premise is straightforward:

“If a business no longer requires brick and mortar, a nation no longer requires land and borders!”

Citizens can organize ONLINE around a cause as well as their native land and borders based nation, the same way they’d organize around a company, a platform, a community, with the same speed, the same reach, and the same participation.

Taiwan’s vTaiwan and Pol.is platforms are a live proof of concept. Digital minister Audrey Tang has described government approval sitting around 9% at the start of the Sunflower Movement era, and overall trust in Taiwan’s institutions climbing to over 70% by 2020, a shift she attributes directly to replacing top-down messaging with open digital deliberation. On the platform itself, vTaiwan’s own case record shows more than 80% of its consultations since 2015 have led to concrete government action, including a single Uber-regulation debate that drew over 31,000 votes and more than 4,000 citizens crowdsourcing the meeting agenda. That is not a hypothetical. That already happened, in this decade, in a real government.

India’s Cockroach Janta Party is a newer data point. Born in May 2026 as a satirical response to a sitting Chief Justice comparing unemployed youth to “cockroaches,” it grew to over 350,000 sign-ups and 20 million Instagram followers within days, entirely through digital organizing, before it ever staged a physical protest. The infrastructure came second. The citizens came first.

None of this requires the Third Shaking to be literal. It only requires believing what almost every version of the prophecy, and the actual data, are both pointing at: division is the failure mode, and organized participation is the way out of it.

So Simple Even an Apeman Gets It

Here’s the part that sounds like a marketing pitch, because it is one, and we’re not going to pretend otherwise. It’s also a political science experiment. It’s also, if it works, an international pro-democracy movement. All three at once, and all three start the same way: a tap on a screen.

“Just a tap of your screen” means exactly that. Subscribing, sharing, or joining a Cause-Based Nation online takes the same three seconds as any other digital action you take a hundred times a day. The barrier has never been effort. It’s been awareness that the option exists at all.

Why not try it? Every citizen-led democratic movement in history started as a minority position that most people assumed would never scale. The only variable that’s different now is distribution. You don’t need to convince a legislature. You need to convince the person next to you to tap once.

Who writes the history here? The groups, causes, and nations that organize first and build real participation, not just followers, will be remembered as the founders of Online Citizen-Led Democracy. That’s not a guess. It’s how every prior movement got named after whoever showed up first and stayed.

What’s the number that tips it? Nobody knows the exact tipping point for a movement like this, and anyone who tells you they do is guessing. What we do know is Simon Sinek’s Law of Diffusion of Innovation: once a movement hits roughly 15-18% market penetration among believers, it reaches a tipping point and mass adoption follows. That’s the number worth aiming at. In the meantime, we’re setting a nearer target: 1,000 people in the next 7 days. Small enough to be honest about. Large enough to prove the model works before we scale it.

The Choice, Restated Without the Mythology

Strip away the prophecy entirely, and the choice underneath it doesn’t change: organize, or stay divided; either way, the ground moves anyway.

IOD Nations exists so that choice has somewhere to go. Not a belief system. A platform. One citizenship, infinite entry points, and a formula that only works if people show up: Number of people united, multiplied by collaboration, equals Democracy.

The shaking, whatever you call it and wherever you believe it came from, is not waiting for consensus on its origin story. Neither should we.
